(Chelila Nature Trek)

The 3 days Bhutan Trek is a nature based hiking as the name suggests. This is a short three days Bhutan Trek itinerary that gives opportunity to see the Haa valley. You can see the Paro valley on the other side of the ridge. From the end of March till the end of May, the trekking trail is decorated with varieties of Primulas, Blue Poppy, Rhododendron Rhododendrons and other wild flowers and Orchids.

Starting Point: Chonana, Paro.

End point: Near Kila Gompa, Paro.

Itinerary for 3 Days Bhutan Trek:


Rimpung Dzong.

Day 01: Arrival at Paro and sightseeing:

Meet & Greet at the Paro airport and drive to the Hotel.

After lunch, visit to:

  • Ta Dzong built in 1656 and renovated in 1968. This building houses the National Museum of Bhutan.
  • Rimpung Dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 02. Paro sightseeing – Hike to the Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang) Monastery:

  • After breakfast, hike to the spectacular Taktsang (Tiger’s Nest) monastery (2 hours – one way).
  • The Drugyal Dzong built in 1647 by the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

On the way back, visit Kichu Lhakhang built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King, Srongsen Gampo.

In the evening, free for shopping and photography in the town.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 03. Paro – Chonana:


View from the Chelila Pass.

Drive to the trekking point which is approximately 4 km. From here, it is a gradual and a slow climb through Bhutanese farmland. You can see beautiful view of the Paro valley. Dinner and overnight in camp.

Alt. 3500 m. Distance-14 km.

Day 04. Chonana – Jebcharpo:

Today we hike uphill for about 4 hours with brief stops. The trail passes through the carpets many species of Primula and other wild flowers. You can see the beautiful Himalayan Ranges from the ridge of Chele La pass.

Dinner and overnight in camp. Distance 16 km.

Day 05. Jebcharpo – Chelila – Thimphu:

You can see the stunning views of Jumolhari, Tserim Gang and Jichu Drake from the camp. We follow the ridge with its views of the mountains and you can see the Ha valley. On the other side of the ridge you can see the Paro valley. We follow the ridge and visit the Kila Gompa Nunnery and descend down to the motorable road where the trek ends. Your vehicle will pick you up and drive to Thimphu.

Distance-15 km. Alt, 3845 m.

Day 06. Thimphu Sightseeing:


Tallest statue of sitting Buddha in the world (51.5 m).

In the morning, visit to:

  • The National Memorial Chorten (1974) built in honor of our Late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Tallest statue of sitting Buddha Dorderma (51.5m).
  • Takin Preserve center.
  • Sangaygang view point.
  • Changangkha monastery, the oldest temple of Thimphu valley.
  • The Dupthop nunnery.

After lunch, visit to

  • The Folk Heritage museum.
  • Painting school or the School of Arts and Crafts.
  • Craft Bazaar where you can see the Bhutanese textile and handicraft emporium.

In the evening, visit to the Tashichho Dzong, the seat of National Government and Central Monastic Body.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 07. Thimphu – Paro (Departure):

After breakfast, drive to the airport and farewell.
